Gear Guide

But Katie & Nat, how do I start a video podcast? Fun fact: it's way easier than you think. Believe us. If we can do it, anyone can.

We often get asked how we produce our video podcast, so here's a detailed list of all of our favorite tools & gear. We do actually use all of these things, so feel free to send us an email to thevhsclubpod@gmail.com if you want to learn more.

TOOLS

Ecamm

Ecamm is a full video recording and live streaming app for Mac. It helps us not only record all of the video and audio you see and hear for our show, but also allows us to record vertical video for promos and add graphics, movie trailers, comments, and more. It's epic.

Camo

Camo turns our phones into powerful webcams so that we look our best on camera. This app also gives us full control of our camera settings and lets us adjust our picture quality so that we always look great.

Descript

Descript is one of those magical tools that does a ton. It lets us quickly and easy edit our video by editing the transcript. We can also burn on captions, dub over anything dumb we may have said, and create a subtitles file for YouTube.

Spotify

Spotify is our podcast host. It sends our video and audio feed out to all of the podcast players like Apple, Spotify, Amazon Music, and more.

Epidemic Sound

Our "theme song" at the beginning of our show is provided by Epidemic Sound. This tool is great if you're creating content for YouTube because it gives us royalty free music that really rocks. And bonus! You can search music and sounds by genre, which makes it easy to find the sound you're looking for.

YouTube

We record this podcast live in front of our "studio audience" of Tater Tots every Thursday at 9pm Eastern. YouTube lets us upload videos, live stream, and even host our video podcast. You'll see the podcast on YouTube.com and also as video and audio in the YouTube Music app.

PodPage

This website is built by PodPage. It really made it super easy. If you have a podcast and want a website that's more robust than what's offered by your podcast host, we definitely recommend PodPage.

Opus Pro

Opus is magical for podcasters and video creators. You upload your video and it automatically finds the best clips so you can promote your show. And it adds eye-catching, designed captions to the clips to stop your audience and potential audience in their tracks. AI magic at its best.

GEAR

You can't create a podcast without a few things. Here's the gear we use and love.

Shure MV7

Katie loves this microphone because it always sounds incredible, it connects via USB or XLR (so it's versatile for any use), and it's small enough to pop into a backpack to bring with you when you're on the go. The microphone Katie uses was sent through to Colorware to get a pop of 90s color and shine.

Insta360 Link

Katie and Nat often just use their phones or built-in cameras, but if you're looking to level up, we highly recommend the Insta360 Link webcam. This tiny camera offers 4K quality and even tracks your movements. It's a perfect option for small spaces.

OBSBOT Tiny2

Similar to the Insta360 Link, but we think it actually offers higher quality and more features. If you have a bigger budget, choose this one.

Switchpod

This tripod is incredible. It's small, portable, but really durable. And it folds up almost flat, so you can bring it with you when you're on the go. LOVE it.

Nanlite PavoTube II (10")

These little lights are simply awesome. They can be used for your main lighting, as part of a three point lighting system, or to add a pop of color to your background. Plus, they're battery operated, have magnets in them, and are small enough to bring with you if you're traveling.

Elgato Key Light

Lighting is super important for getting great video quality. We use Elgato Key Lights in our home studio spaces because they're easy to set up, use, and provide awesome results.

Linsoul KZ ZSN Earphones In-Ear Monitors

We cannot stress enough how important it is to wear in-ear monitors when you're live streaming or recording your podcast. This helps you monitor your audio and keeps the audio from getting picked up by your microphone and feeding back into the show. Plus, these are comfy and don't show up on screen.
